Where and When is the launch?

For this launch, here is the ONLY remaining possible launch combination with high-power rocketry authorization from Transport Canada:

  1. September 26 2020, at the Hanna/Spondin launch site
  2. Other site and date combinations are now CANCELLED because of fire safety conditions

For the remaining 1-day Saturday launch combination, the schedule is 8am-8pm.

This launch will be confirmed 48 hours before the event depending on fire safety conditions, expected weather, and conditions on the ground at the launch site. Before travelling to the launch site, check for the latest news on the Calgary Rocketry web site or Twitter news feed

About the launch sites

In general, the two possible launch sites have different characteristics:

  1. If the event takes place at the Hanna/Spondin launch site, the altitude limit is 10,000 ft (3,050 m) AGL. No toilet facilities are provided on-site.
  2. The event cannot take place at the Sullivan Lake/Rock Lake launch site, so the altitude limit of 40,000 ft (12,000 m) AGL is not available.

For the time being, Alberta Covid-19 safety requirements dictate a maximum of 200 people for audience-type community outdoor events.

Because of this limit and because of contact-tracing requirements, fliers and spectators must register to attend the launch. This should be done on-line in advance. For last-minute needs, on-site registration will also be offered and (for fliers) cash payments will be accepted. In the event that maximum allowed attendance is being reached, priority will be given to attendees who have registered in advance on-line.

Please bring your own masks and hand sanitizer. A limited supply will be available on-site, but it is best to plan to bring your own.
